I downloaded it to check it out but I think being in Europe means the connection just isn't good enough, as its not smooth play. A shame as I liked the idea of playing LoTR.

LOTRO doesnt play much like DDO. I found it to be a lot closer to WoW honestly. And I've been playing it over the weekend since I was bored and couldnt connect to the DDO servers. Sad

I'm on the Landroval server btw.

Did you download standard or high resolution? I wanted to download high but it says it's over 10gb. Do they not know the meaning of compression?

And I hate that it makes me install Pando media Booster. It makes my computer slow as shit.

I have the game on DVD, bought when it first came out. It seemed like a slightly worse version of WoW, so I didn't play beyond the month that came with the game. Now that it's gone free, might be worth another looksee... I seriously dread the amount of updates I'll have to download though.

High res. I seriously spend more time staring at the Middle Earth landscapes than doing quests. Well, that and playing songs in a tavern (yes, you can get instruments and play any song you want to as long as you know how to convert it to a readable language for the game).

Found a lot of transcribed 50 cent songs for LOTRO, and thought about making a hobbit named 50 Copper and trolling people's roleplays with lute versions of P.I.M.P. and all that crap, but it'd be too much effort. Maybe later.

Don't bother, just play DDO instead, it's quite clearly superior :p

Worked out why it was being rubbish for me (not technical minded or computer savvy) but after a few hours of playing I wasn't grabbed by it. The story telling aspect of it is nice but felt like the character was just running around relaying messages from one npc to another, so when she's then told that a village is in debt to her, it seemed odd and false. Don't like the way the fights are done either. But yes, it is all very pretty.

Yeah, it's not quite as entertaining as DDO is (at least not at low levels where there's no group stuff to do). But while DDO is being a bitch and wont let me connect, this one does, so I watch time go by running around Middle Earth as a dwarf with drinking and anger management problems (more than usual for his kind). Also a bard-wannabe and hobbit-rapist. But that's another story.

I can't see anything on DDO again, so now I am back to playing Everquest II. I still fall off high things and get killed randomly, but the graphics do work better for me and I don't get as dizzy as I do on DDO lol! (And yes I know, I am dizzy most of the time anyway Very Happy)

Just started playing it. So far I think it's cute and interesting in its own way. I prefer this way of playing to DDO. Still, I enjoy PerfectWorld and Requiem more. This game feels more clunky to me.

And the graphics look great in full screen, but crap in windowed mode.

I'm enjoying it a bit more after a few skills. I'm an elf minstrel and the skills work on a tier where you have to do chant 1 to charge chant 2, then charge chant 3.

And I jumped off a cliff just to see what'd happen. Got the choice to revive right there or retreat. But instant death meant I had no choice but to retreat, and retreat gives a 10 minute stat penalty.

ETA: *Buys a cowbell* cheers

I played the closed beta, I guess a couplle years ago now. I was impressed with the graphics, but the gameplay was a bit lacking. If it's free to play now, I might give it another go.

LOTRO can get a bit boring if you're playing solo. However there's lots of fun to be had, be it roleplaying or just doing quests and dungeons. If anyone plays on my server, add Bidbur to your friends list and send me a pm if you need any help with quests or want to just group up. I'm a level 19 tank working my way up slowly, but I can do any low level quests without a problem.

Are you getting a black screen? If so, go into options and change directx 10 to directx 9. Then quit and log on again.
