PostSubject: Fun in The Pit!   Sat Oct 23, 2010 9:42 am

I know it might seem odd putting the words "fun" and "the pit" together, but last night I did have fun there ^^ I had been avoiding the quest altogether as it sounded like a nightmare and I think I would have had a miserable time in there with a group that zerged through. But decided to go in solo with the intention of just learning where the different chambers were and getting a feel for it. In the end I tried out most of the quest, only getting halted at the third furnace where I just couldn't get up into the pipes on the steam jets. But yes, I had fun in a masochistic way. The longest room was the first furnace where I discovered how rubbish I was at accurate jumping, but after falling to the ground umpteen times I finally got to the top to flip the switch. The sense of achievement was fab =) By the third furnace I'd gone through three weapons to the oozes and had chugged a lot of pots to cure myself. Luckily I had a ring of fire resist, was wearing acid resist armour, remembered my feather fall boots and had reptilian bane arrows to shoot the trogs before I reached them.

Seriously thinking of revisiting one of the harbour quests to get the muckbane, and then I'll try it again with a PUG. I took a look at the vid of Mister Cow running the Pit - jealous! He had a TR toon and ran it solo in 22 mins, including the optional at the end. Was kinda breathtaking to watch Smile

Anyone got any Pit stories?

I've only done it once and I sort of vowed never to do it again. I was in a big group that zerged it and all I seemed to be doing was run up, then down, then up again, the down again then get killed by evil Trog mages, etc. Then when I nearly killed the big blob/ooze thing at the end, I fell into the lava and died just before the chest. The lovely group I was with, including a cleric with raise dead, collected all the goodies and finished out leaving me with no other choice than to use a cake to revive myself Sad

I did it for favor I think 2 weeks ago. I had an awesome person to follow and he pretty well did it all, and explained it to me as we went. I like it better then Coal chamber, but it is a very hard quest for the level it is

First time I did the pit was with Anto and Jill many moons ago on elite.

Let's just say we were our own guides - lol.

About a 3 hour ordeal - man was it awesome to see that 11,000 or so XP come up.

Yup - "The Pit", "Coalescence Chamber", and anything in Necro 2 pretty much bites.

Really good XP though... Laughing

I think I've found a quest worse than the pit - The Crucible in Gianthold (P2P). I went in there yesterday with a group and only the leader knew it very well (I must admit he was an excellent leader, very calm, patient and informative).

There's a nasty maze, thousands of traps, horrible monsters that shoot ice storms or whatever that basically slow you down and make you blind. We had two rogues, two tanks and two healers and still couldn't do it Sad

Rogues are essential for their evasion (there's a long swim in a strong current and underwater spikes that would kill just about any other build), tanks for their bashability, etc. I'd recommend taking a paralyzing weapon to take on the annoying mephits.

Basically after 3 hours of battling, a total of 8 cakes used for reviving. We ran out of stuff and had to release and at that point we were literally 10 seconds from finishing, but unfortunately the rogues had provoked too much aggro after the swim and couldn't stay alive any longer.

The leader MUST have voice chat and use a mike (to tell people when to turn the levers in the maze) because otherwise it's impossible!

Shocked

Sounds like you enjoyed the challenge though? Three hours in there and you didn't give up!

Btw, "fun" and "the pit" are words that I don't normally associate with one another... Laughing
