Looks like a DDO rip-off? Although the action looks more like Star Wars Online. Least it's free to play.

I've heard that this guy's review is pretty spot on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePbu1RZSHZk

I probably won't bother with it as there's little customisation and I hear that the combat system sucks. A lot of the DDO players who went to try it out have already come back saying its okay but doesn't hold their attention. The best thing about it apparently is the foundry as that means a lot of interesting content created by the players.

It likely needs a bit of time to sort itself out to get over this stage where its full of bugs and exploits and may be worth looking at in a years time.

Quite a few of the guys in vent have went over to neverwinter since they're hit their level of toleration with ddo.

The graphics are awesome. The quests are pretty good, and the foundary ones can be amazing. Clerics are crazy op and you have to learn how to not pull agro. Char creation is a blast, you can spend hours in it. Their raiding system only had 5 people in a group and is pretty challenging. I liked it, and for being in beta still it's pretty damn good.

Down sides for me: kobolds aren't cute, you can only rent FAT horses, when you cast, you stand still (so no running around casting things), limited spells and the hotbar system is strange, and since its in mouselook, I have to take antinausea pills to play for longer then 20 min.

its free so not much to lose by trying it out, give it a shot and we'll get you a guild invite Smile

I played NWN online as well as the single-player and its expansion packs, I went on the sequel with its packs. About a decade ago I spent many months playing a NWN mod that had it hack & slash. While getting quick result can be entertaining, it can become very very boring once you know the few tricks to get around.

The reason for this boredom is the evenness of the characters made with the too powerful items which absorbed many damage. This made the wide variety of characters become to just a few differences: hitters, tanks & casters ; even the casters could withstand a bit the NPC hitters, which on a better game he could take 3 hits maximum, so a round or 2 maximum, unless buffed real good, which isn't great as it muffle the casting. Even the enemies had a lot of resistance.

It's important to appreciate the fullness of such system that all actors have weaknesses, and that for every greatness there's an as well great weakness, which can be compensated but not easily. If I'd get back in gaming, I'd go with a game that make items real expensive, that is spend many hours to get something good, and most better items restricted to classes. Most of the time, you'd rely on class specialties. So for a small party, a healer armored cleric would be primordial and the care of him/her would be primordial, that is requiring many rests or grinding to get some healer's kit as items would be expensive (taking a lot of time to get them).

The game would be very much base oriented ; specific class skills would be most important, the interaction and combination of class would be key. Also I'd have moderators on the lookout for character changing, that is when a door is needed someone change for a thief then run on their location from the start then switch back, or when face with doom (all characters dying), one get a higher level character to rescue them.

When playing P&P D&D, the DM won't allow character change in a game unless there's a very good reason and that reason would most likely letting one's character die to make a new one. Also some DMs will see that the class interaction is kept in check by tweaking the games to emphasize this ; s/he'll make class-specific requirements like going to a church trying to convince a priest to lend/give an artifact to get further in the game, a few like that so the party has the choice but all hard paths which require that a character become/stay closer to its essence. Of course there would be place for multi-classing but the DM would see to it that it's made to further the character development, not simply looking aiming for pure advantages like hitting, tanking & casting. In game scenarios (single-player stories) or novels, even brutes try to get skills, get smarter or spend much energy to get a trustworthy ally or megalomaniac wizard get to realize (albeit slowly) the need for others.

To me there's really no need to play D&D without class-true(er to its base) interdependence, otherwise you just need a real simple D20 system to hack&slash away.

NWN is NeverWinter Nights, it's base in Forgotten Realms, a D&D campaign setting. The game name is most likely based on
Neverwinter Nights From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia wrote:
Neverwinter is a fictional city-state in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game. Neverwinter was founded by Lord Halueth Never. It sits on the northwestern coast of the subcontinent of Faerûn.
as it's 1st scenario was based around that very city.

I'll have to give it another go, I don't remember what my settings were last time. Besides overheating (an issue since I got this p.o.s. almost 5 years ago), my keyboard is missing the "3" and other keys aren't reliable. I haven't tried it with my external keyboard yet, but maybe I'll give it a go. I did install the updates last night for it and LOTRO.

I do miss it Sad

There's a few of us running around but mostly on higher lvl characters. I'm always making new characters though as I like the low level quests and trying out different classes. Just make a wizard and can run around with you if we're on at the same time.

The pug scene is pretty good on Khyber, especially in the evenings EST, so you should find groups easily enough, although you may find they zoom through the quests fast if they are running elite difficulty as often they are players who know the quests well and have done them a million times.

Don't get put off though. There are plenty players who are new to the game all the time who are looking for other new players to try the quests at a slower pace. They're just a bit shy about putting up a group on the social board.
