Hey, I looked up the Game of Throne[s] books and I found about 25 of them.
I heard there's only like 2-3 books so I'm really confused at this point. Can someone help me out here?

Edit: Changed the title ("Game of Thrones [Book]" = "A Song of Ice and Fire")

The song of Ice and Fire series:

  • A Game of Thrones (1996)
  • A Clash of Kings (1998)
  • A Storm of Swords (2000)
  • A Feast for Crows (2005)
  • A Dance with Dragons (2011)
  • The Winds of Winter (forthcoming)
  • A Dream of Spring (forthcoming)

The others would be novellas most likely or maybe even serialised versions of the ones I listed.  Sad to say I have only read the first two.  I must be slipping in my old age Razz

Currently, am on “A Feast for Crows”. I must say reading it, is better than watching it. They have missed a lot of important parts when you just watch it. Not to mention a lot of the characters have been messed with, not to mention the story line. Sad

Anto and I have read all of them. I have to agree with Sean. I actually stopped watching the series a few episodes into season 2 because it made me mad how far they deviated from the books after they followed pretty closely in season 1.

Got the first three books, the last 50 or so pages of the first book took me longer than I'd like to admit. It was the biggest book i'd ever read, as my only reading experience spans from a series of unfortunate events series(as a child), to the hunger games series, the hobbit & 1984. So not more than 400 pages in any one book. Whereas a game of thrones was 800, and this next one is nearly 900... I guess I can take relief from the following one only being just over 500 pages, even if it's only a part 1 of 2.. :/

Enjoying the read when I actually put my attention to it. Was hugely confused at one point in the book trying to connect names from the book to faces from the series, but I got there in the end. Not thrilled to hear it'll be different from what I've already seen in the programme in the next books, I liked the satisfaction of recalling what I'd already seen.

Just finished watching the "red wedding" episode - even though I knew it was coming my stomach still turned.  Takes great courage for a writer to do that to his characters.  And no, I will not spoil it for those who don't know what I am talking about Razz

The big events are the same, it's just small differences really, and generally things are better in the books. I doubt it will disappoint.

I really don't understand what you mean by that. Sometimes English idioms are lost on me, sorry.

It was just a cruel joke by GRRM that he probably got a kick out of.

Started reading them back in July, currently 90ish pages into "A Dance With Dragons - After The Feast"

At one time I was so engrossed into them that I kept making references to them to my friends which result in a response along the lines of .."Another GoT thing, Aidan?" ..... "yep Sad". I also had a battered iron coin which when asked why I had it I'd just respond "valar morghulis" Don't judge me !!
lol!
(I still have that coin haha)

My favourite one was probably "A Storm of Swords - Blood and Gold".

I want the rest of them to be written already !!

I think it's kind of cool that the other books haven't being written yet. Even the author doesn't know what the conclusion to the webs of conspiracy are. But yes he should write more books soon because otherwise the TV series is going to catch up and we are going to be left waiting for years for the next currently unwritten series to come out. Or god forbid the TV production team writes their own 'book' or mini-stories to air during the wait for the books to be written.

Actually the author has written down the major plot points and given them to the show director's in case he dies before finishing the series.

http://shelf-life.ew.com/2011/07/12/george-martin-talks-a-dance-with-dragons/

If you like "gritty" fantasy type series with political intrigue other good series to check out...

1. First Law Series - Joe Abercrombie
2. The Broken Empire - Mark Lawrence
3. Prince of Nothing - R Scott Baker
4. Lies of Locke Lamorra - Scott Lynch
5. The Black Company - Glen Cook

Yes I've read all of them, I'm a bibliophile.

Ah cool i didn't know that, guess that's a safe precaution then Wink
I will keep an eye out for the list I have the same approach to those types of books as you.
I have read the Prince of Thorns and King of Thorns, just waiting till crimbo for the Emperor of Thorns for the The Broken Empire series by Mark Lawrence.
