Yes Elois. Very Happy

I'm studying Civil Engeneer at the KULeuven and we're with 550 students. Maximum 30 of them are girls. This doesn't make men smarter than woman but only shows a difference in interests. Like you don't need to ask me some things about psychology or something. That's also why our student union organizes parties with other student unions. Otherwise there wouldn't be any girls Laughing

I was in the minority in my classes at University. Seems that not many women like to study Physics either, but for me it was fascinating Very Happy

I think a lot of the "different interests" idea comes from conditioning and gender stereotyping. From an early age, children are conditioned by their parents to conform to a specific gender stereotype. Boys are given war toys and cars, girls get dolls and vacuum cleaners. My mother was convinced that I was deranged because despite her best efforts, I never conformed to a gender stereotype. I have always been into fast cars, science, maths and extreme sports. For years I avoided pink just to prove how ungirly I was, but now, hell, I am secure enough to admit that I like pink and love new shoes Very Happy I have learned that I can be clever and girly and if other people can't accept that, it's their problem.

I don't think I'm all that conditioned to be different from a man but I do think my hormones have an impact on how I think. Doesn't make a man better than me, just different. I'm okay with that. I love what interesting men bring to my living experience, and I'm sure men love what women bring to theirs. Smile

Don't be daft, I was responding specifically to Diragon, Mr. "Thus is why men will always be smarter then girls". I won't put words in your mouth, and you don't put them in mine, 'kay?

I just assumed the obvious like anyone else reading your comment would, 'kay?

Anyway, we both agree on the messy stuff, so continue to outsmart Diragon as you will. Razz

Lol Diragon... Just because you are a man does not make you smarter then a woman. (for that comment alone I give you a -1) I have seen many a man as well as woman here on the net that make fools of themselves over the opposite sex. I have also seen many people that have known each other from RK become RL couples. Some of whom have married or made long commitments to each other. While I do agree with you that coming to the net or a game for the sole purpose of finding that special relationship is dumb, there are people that have met others without seeking them out.

I see there being a big difference between In Game relationships and the other kind of online relationships. In Game, such as RK, its not me who is having that relationship but my character. I'm very strict when it comes to online relationships, it can't go further than friends. People lie so easily and are manipulative. I got my lessons in my early teens, which I'm glad for. Makes me recognize those kind of people easier. I find it creepy when guys want something more on msn than friendly chatting. That said, I did meet my irl boyfriend through RK/these forums Razz. We moved onto msn to not spam the chat here lulz. We talked lots over webcamera, I appreciated that as I could practise talking english with another non-native english speaker. But yeah, we were both strongly agreeing on that we were friends, and online it wouldn't get any further than that. I was feeling quite shit irl at that time, I wanted to get away some place far far away to be able to think properly what I should do with my life. So I decided to visit him for a week, we clicked instantly but then there was this issue of - we live in different countries, if we want to continue our relationship, how should we do that? I decided quite easily I wanted to move. I had nothing to keep me in Sweden. Pretty much everyone I know got shocked by that decision but I felt I had nothing to lose, kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity to move to a different country - and I've always liked the idea of one day moving to UK but its kinda hard to pack your bags and go on your own. Its almost been a year now - strange to think. I don't regret my decision at all. Very Happy It certainly wasn't planned to go this way. I think, if I had been more successful in my studies, I might've not moved.

My boyfriend and I don't interact in RK, I don't even like his character haha... I do hear a lot of RK relationships that extends further than RK but online. Its creepy. Virtual bf/gf... and all the damn drama that comes with it. I'm open to a new relationship in RK, as Telcara wouldn't mind a rich husband and/or slaves. Would need to be someone who shares the same goals, and not too demanding. Razz

Having traveled across the US at least 8 times and being around the world twice, I can tell you that dumb comes about equally between male and female and in all colors.

I don't understand, Tel. Are you saying because you and your boyfriend were never together in the game, it's less creepy than any other relationship? Or that because he never tried cyber with you, it's less creepy? He's still someone that you had never met before, that you flew, alone to meet. Thankfully, he wasn't an axe murderer and now you're a very happy gal.

I think there's room for mature relationships on here with good people. It's not that anything online is creepy, it's that there's creepy people, period. Those creeps exist IRL too.

Well, I simply think online relationships are creepy. Its my opinion. In my book its fine if its a long distance relationship and you know the person behind the screen. I think I forgot to add, that I think you get to know a person more when you can hear them talk and see them (webcamera) than just writing. You don't have the 'what if he is 60 pretending to be 25? or what if he is a she' problems... lulz

Ever read a romance novel? Did you stick your hands down your pants? No, I don't want the answer to that. I think the fantasy can be enjoyed without getting "sticky."

And I have never, in my 12 years of having internet, ever dealt with someone that wasn't who they said they were. I know other people that have had horror stories.

It's funny, you guys are sounding like my knitting group. Maybe there's a part of me that's liberal afterall. Razz

What I meant before was that I no longer do In Game relationships because the fact that too many women don't respect the boundary you speak of. As for the cyber sex, bah. What a waste of fifteen minutes. I remember when I was like 14, I had my first cyber sex experience. I got to the point where we were both naked and ready to go boom boom and a rogue thunderstorm came by and knocked my power out. No.. no there was no thunderstorm, just an offswitch when I realized I didn't know what to do next. The next day: "...sorry, lost power last night......"

And don't go all feminist on me girls, I was just kidding Razz. Though, the women on Jeopardy do get smoked.

Just a little something before you start saying guys are smarter than girls - all foetuses start off as female, so actually - there is no difference in gender, just a specialisation to facilitate procreation. Men are stronger, faster and can see further than women because women bred them that way to protect their offspring. So who's smarter now?

(As a little aside, I am saying this tongue in cheek, its true, but not meant to inflame Very Happy)

That's incorrect. A fetus doesn't have a sex (in terms of anatomy or hormones). Only difference between a male and female fetus is the karyotype. The presence or absence of a male gene (SRY) then initiates sexual determination.

Also, females can't breed men with certain features. You can argue that nature bred men to be stronger, faster, etc.. but that would still be a flawed arguement.

For the record, I believe that any talk of men being "better" or smarter than woman is ridiculous (both biologically and socially), and doesn't belong in the 21st century. Smile

Exactly Achilles. It's ridiculous to argue a proven fact in the 21st century.
