OPENING ROUND

The weather is calm and sunny, nothing is happening much in the kingdom and this is making the natives restless.  Half of the population are settlers; people who grow crops, trade and build strong walls for their cities.  The other half of the population are nomads, content to own only the things they can carry and scavenge from the land.

CONDITIONS OF THIS ROUND

All participants are in their starting squares.
All Nomads gain one crafting turn bonus.
All Settlers gain one food.
No attacks this round.
All participants get one roll of the die.

ROUND START!

Name:  Chyler
Type:  Settler
Position: J8

In her early 20's. She is a bit on the spunky side. Blonde hair and killer blue eyes. Being small she has a good tendency to slip past many unnoticed, but if she is attacked, she rarely misses her target. She had a small scar on her right side from a fight she got in a village. Though if you place a bottle of alcohol in front of her, she tends to became a bit flirtatious. She tends to be of a bit of a charmer. Her personality is one that seems to light up the room, and she makes friends with pretty much anyone she meets. Easy going and laid back. She is caring, and compassionate about those around her and especially those she calls her close friends.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a few months of traveling this new place, Chyler found a rather "cushy" spot an started to erect her town. A few would make their way there, helping her conduct her business. She gained a lot of popularity with the towns men. Though, it was most likely due to the fact that half the time her shirt was tired up and she wore her skirt a bit hiked up. But when one is building what should they do? Chyler had always been a bit of a flirt. Chy was was alone, so why not?

The town was surrounded by a marsh on one side, and a ocean on the other. This giving her the defenses she needed to help build her town strong. With the marsh in front of her, and the ocean to her back, she would be able to see any enemies that approached. For it was rather hard to hide a ship in the blueness of the ocean, that along with the  alligators that one of the settlers had released, and over the months it seemed that they grew in numbers as well. The tower that set out over the ocean, also had a few surprises laid around it an along the beach as well. But for those that came uninvited, it would rather .... unpleasant.

The citizens of the town were becoming a bit on the restless side as it seemed there was no structure of the town. They all banned together and made a bit of a citizens decisions and elected Chyler as their Mayor. As she stood in awe at the small ocean front house they made her her, she smiled, and made here way to the tower that over looked the ocean and the marsh, she then stood there, and called out to her townsmen, "I now call this Pleasureville... now let is eat, drink and have a good time." she gave with a grin, as she made her way through the crowd and to the nearest tavern.

Below is a few pictures  of her town:

Name: Zaen
Type: Nomad
Position: A10
Equipment: Ziggy the Dagger (+3 Attack), Charming smile (+2 Attack)
Action: Rolled a 2 +1 crafting bonus for the round to make use of special ability (crafting a dagger).

Bushes shook as a worn out boot violently assaulted them. Serves them right for just sitting there, staring, thought sandy haired man who stood, hands on hips, glaring at the offending…

The man kicked the dried out corps which crumbled inwardly a bit. “Not even my size. How inconsiderate.” Chided the man, crouching and jabbing at the dead persons pockets. “Oh! What have you found, Zaen old buddy old chum?” he said with a childlike glee, extracting what looked to be a dull chipped dagger blade, missing its hilt. “Ooooo. Now this is a treat. I haven’t had a pretty since the last one I lost in that annoying brat.” he reminisced with himself.

Getting up he did a little jig and a dance before giving the bushes and the corps one last appraising glare, scooped and grabbed a bone from the body which needed a bit of tender loving care to dislodge then ran to his camp. Camp is such a strong word really. In fact it was a nice patch of grass by a tree. Zaen slipped down and began to fashion a hilt out of the bone with a suitably rocky rocky he found most conveniently close by. Was it not serendipity how fate worked? He thought while working. Once the blade was strapped to the new hilt (Don’t ask what it was strapped with, you won’t want to know) and after a good sharpening on a wet stone, the man held his new pretty which he named, Ziggy in tribute to its odd, zig-zaggy shape due to its heavy nicks and the way it was now sharpened. With a grin, he lay down, holding Ziggy to his breast like a long lost lover and soon he was asleep, dreaming of all the wonderful things he would shank soon with it.

Name: R'Anne
Type: Nomad
Position: K5
Equipment: Moleskin Boots (+1 Movement rate)
Action: Rolled a 6

1.  I rolled a 6.  I get a +1 on movement rate.  So that gives me a 7.  So I move 4 positions up to position B.
2. Then I use 2 points to craft a bow.
3. Then 1 rest for one turn.

R'Anne was on the hunt. She was a fast runner....and decided she would run north just because the wind would be in her face. It was a cold wind on a bright somewhat warm day for late winter.

She initially was on a trail through a mile-wide patch of pine trees. She ran in her boots that were great for this trail as they provided good traction despite a bit of wet mud here and there.

Soon enough, she smelled a campfire up ahead, and decided to stop, rest just downwind from the camp, and wait and work on a weapon.

Then as dusk crept in, she decided to sleep early, as she intended to wake early for action...

Name: Raina
Type: Nomad
Position: B13
Equipment: Jaunty Hat (+1 Tracking)
Special Ability: Can craft a slingshot in one turn (+1 Attack)

Action: rolled a 5 but am understanding the first roll was practice and we are basically crafting this round with no movement?

--------------------------

Raina returned to her camp with her arms full of kindling. Today she planned to set up a campfire and scout the lay of the land. The day was warm and full of sunshine but come dusk a chill would be felt in the air. She set some pieces of kindling down just inside the mouth of a small cave nestled in a rocky outcrop. She had almost missed it as she traveled in haste the previous night. The darkness concealed it within it's black shadows but a small glow from the moon penetrated into its hollowed depth just enough that she caught it while looking back over her shoulder.

Raina had grown accustomed to taking shelter in unusual locations. It seemed a natural part of life for one who had a tendency to disregard rules and laws. It took hardly any time to dig a small pit, make a circle of rocks and place some wood and kindling in preparation for evening. As she picked through the pieces of wood there was one that stood out to her for another purpose. Grinning at the prospect of making a weapon she takes the thick y-shaped stick in her hands and sits down leaning her back against a wall of rock. She reaches over to her sack of belongings and begins rummaging through it looking for just the right things to complete a sling shot.

Name: Kythera
Type: Settler
Position: G8
Equipment: shovel (build trap pits)
Special Ability: make trap pits in one turn (+1 Defence)

Action: Rolled a 1, make 1 trap pit (+1 defence)

Somehow building a lasting home was a lot more tedious than running into battle with her bloody sword held high.  Ever since she'd returned from the war, Kythera had been investing her hard won booty in a little nest for herself and her family.  But building a house just wasn't as much fun as slicing the throats of English nincompoops, nor was overseeing her array of servants as satisfying as commanding troops in battle.  Even more depressing, she had discovered that it was a bit lonely sitting on her mountain of gold all by herself.  She missed the camaraderie of the troops and the evenings spent drinking round the campfire in the middle of enemy territory.  There was nothing like battle fever to give you a good lasting high.

Kythera sighed as she walked out to the walls around her little castle, inspecting the new construction as she circled her new home.  The carpenters were good, and the work was solid.  But it still felt a bit exposed to her.  If this had been a fort she would have surrounded it with traps and pits to protect them from enemy invasions.  Why not do the same for a castle?  Not that she expected any attacks here, but she was hoarding quite a lot of money, and she didn't quite trust her servants to keep their mouths shut about it.

"Amon, help me dig some big pits," she called, grabbing a shovel and shoving it into the dry earth outside the wall.

"M'lady?" Amon asked, cocking his head and frowning.

"We'll fill it with spikes and wolf traps," Kythera explained, gasping as she struggled to drag the shovel through the heavy dirt.  "in case anyone unexpected comes a'callin, they'll have a surprise or two!"  She threw a malicious grin back at the guardsman as he took a shovel and began to dig.

Name:  Nellie
Type:  Nomad
Position: I6

Turn: Item crafting

Nellie crouched under the low hanging branches to enter her small yet cozy abode. It had taken many months, but she had finally finished the house that hung in the trees. She preferred it that way, high above any civilization. More importantly, it was out of sight when she roamed the area. People seldom looked up when searching for a house. The small wood dwelling offered one fairly spacious room in which all of her most precious belongings were kept. Which wasn’t much. The inventory included a plush bedroll (nights in the trees got rather chilly) and a large piece of obsidian that was shaved into a blade. It was clunky in size, so it was never used as a weapon. Instead, it was used to create weapons.

She brought a choice branch into the house. The branch was knotted, blunt on one edge and splintered on the other. It felt heavy in her hands. It would work perfectly to create her weapon of choice- a lance. Nellie sat cross-legged on a woven rug in the center of the room, a fire lit in a small clay chiminea. She began the time consuming yet cathartic process of smoothing the obsidian over the branch. Slowly, the knots wore down, the splintered end became a sharp spike, the weapon became deadly. Her face passive, she examined her craftsmanship. She was pleased with the results.

Name: George
Type: Settler
Position: D12

Equipment: Cauldron (boiling pitch)

Special Ability: boiling pitch in one turn (+1 Defence)

George looked up at the ruined old fort. Residing on a hill, it was entirely exposed to the elements. It had obviously been taking much more abuse than other forgotten buildings. The walls lay in ruin and all the interior buildings were crumbling. The fort was square shaped and featured four proud towers, the only structures the elements had spared. He took residence in the tower farthest north. The roof seemed mostly intact, and there was more than enough room to spread out his bed roll. Allowing him to stretch out his groaning legs.

He sat by the fire that he had made and removed his boiling pitch from his pack

Agitated fingers worked frantically at putting the final touches on  two fences she had started to put together in a rush. One eye fixed on the sky as she quickly finished the work and ran back inside her hut. The birds had brought her a message she didn't like, a message she didn't like at all. Inside she found several pieces of parchment, a quill and an ink well.

Sweeping her hair out from in front of her face, she put started to write one hurried letter at a time.

Quote :
To whoever receives this letter, the time has come.

In our world there is a great evil coming for us all. We must destroy this evil before it consumes everything we hold dear.

I'm currently hiding in my long established hut, located at F3 on this map I've included.
Please come soon, our defenses will only be better together.

You're biggest regret will be not acting when you had the chance.

come quick

~N

After making about 10 copies of the letter, she attached each of them one by one to a pigeon and set them free straight away. There was no time for delay.

Worried, she watched as her birds spread out in all directions. Each beat of their wings making them travel further and further out of sight until they were gone completely. "Whatever the horizon might bring, so be it."

EDIT2: professional spelling mistakes

"Pleasureville." she thought, it did have a nice little ring to it that was for sure. The days seemed to be filled with much enjoyments. Laughter and such could be heard from the Bosoms Tavernas the days turned into nights. Smiling as she walked the streets of her town, she then came to a stop and twisted her lips a bit as she looked around. She knew they were protected from attacks from the waters, least for the time being. None seemed foolish enough to do so. But it  was the front of the city that faced the marsh that she was most concerned on.

Sighing she went to the butchers and paid him a few pounds for some meat, and made her way to the edge of the marsh. She tossed a few pieces of the meat into the water and watched as the alligators tore at the pieces. Least she knew that if people attempted by boat or to swim across that alligators would take came of them. But she felt that if any did make it across the town was more the vulnerable. She took out a parchment and piece of charcoal and started to sketch. The drawing took her about an hour to complete, but satisfied with it she took it them to the town builder. Handing it over to him, she commanded him to start the building of the town wall.

Round two:

The land of the nomads and Settlers is a fertile one and many years ago was uninhabited.  This means that many wild beasts roam around here and also, people from other lands have used this place to hide their ill-gotten gains.  Many spots on the map are rumoured to contain treasures beyond the wildest of imaginations.  Of course, the rumours could be false and just a story to lure the unwary into a trap.  True or not, some intrepid map maker has made a note of various areas of interest.

Round two map looks like this, with all people added and spots of interest for this round marked.

Rules of round two:

All participants must roll 1d6 and choose actions based on the result

Actions allowed for this round are:

  1. Movement
  2. Eating
  3. Attacking
  4. Crafting
  5. Exploring
  6. Trading

Mod notes:

  • Movement is calculated as one spot of the die=1 square on the grid.  Please include final grid reference.
  • Eating is the equivalent of one movement, so 1 spot on the die.  Once this is decided, then another roll of 1d6 determines how much stamina is gained.
  • When attacking, please read the rules regarding combat and for any questions please PM me or ask in the idea thread.
  • Crafting works as before
  • Exploring is moving to a Spot of Interest and triggering a random event there.  Once triggered, a random set of 6 possible outcomes will be generated by the GM and a roll of 1d6 will determine which outcome applies.
  • Trading takes no movement points and can be done between any participant at any time during the round.  There are no rules to trading except one, you can't trade what you haven't got.

All settlers gain one food for this round
All nomads gain one movement bonus.

Round two begins ....

R'Anne arrived at her destination and rested the previous day...So now she is awake and alert.

She looks over a ridge and finds the encampment of a settler (fyi - Carun at position L2).  She seems to be a young lady with black, short hair...and not particularly burly.  Accordingly, R'Anne decides to as stealthily as possible sneak up on her victim and attack...

ooc/Roxxane in a separate thread rolled a 6 and gets a +1 - so has a 7.  She is already at L2 and will be attacking with everything she has...if she wins, she would like to loot Carun and then run due west with her remaining moves.  If she loses, she will move west 2 spaces and rest the remaining moves.  Thanks,

Chyler: Rolled 6 on die, crafted wall, rested. ADD wall (+2 Def) to equipment and +4 to stamina
Die roll-- 3

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chy was more then excited when the town was bustling with people. Though there had not been any trade recently so she decided to through her her riding gear and make her way out of the town going, she took her horse and rode out towards the south. Taking a break 2(j10) hour after the trip from town, as well it had been a long time since she rode and her bum was  bit sore. She took a break.Taking a bit of meat from the butchers and a slice of bread, she sat and had a lunch, Making  a bit of a fire she decided to take a look around the area. She tied her horse to the stump she found and began to wander off towards the west(K10), there in the distance there seemed to be something, but with the fog that seemed to be in the area it was hard for her to make it out.

R'Anne continues to move forward, sure that she will have the element of surprise...but she steps on a stick that cracks. It is possible her victim thought it was the crack of the fire. R'Anne wasn't sure...

Round 2 dice roll is a 5. Raina will move 3 spaces to location C10 where there is a spot of interest.
-------------

Raina grew restless in her new shelter. Making a slingshot only kept her occupied a short while. She could only stare for so long at the dark rocky surrounding that lacked any home comfort with the exception it was warmed somewhat by the fire. She stood and stretched out her long limbs, shaking off the pins and needles she had from sitting in one place for too long. If she was going to call this cave her home for the next little while she would need a few things. She thought of hunting down some big game and using the pelt to cover the cool rocky floor, or she could just break into a dwelling and take what she needed.

She set off going north east and it wasn't long before she spotted a structure peeking over the top of a hill in the eastern distance. She cautiously made her way towards it. As she drew nearer she could see it was an old fort. Who knew what gems had been left behind there. She was rubbing her hands greedily when movement coming from the lower road stole her attention. Raina squinted into the sun and thought she could make out 4 law men heading her direction. If there weren't so many she could dispatch them herself but instead she took off to the north instead of making a run for the fort in the east. She would have to lose the law men before doing anything. She ran, hopped and jumped her way through a series of small swampy rivers and creeks that all fed into one main waterway.

When she was sure she had put enough distance between herself and the law she slowed her pace and then came to rest along the river bank to get a drink of water. Still being cautious of any pursuers Raina looked around in all directions. There was something not far from her where she was (C10).

GM note for player Hespera.

You have encountered a spot of interest.  You must now roll a 1d6.  The number on the dice will correspond to one of six possible outcomes delineated below.  So if you roll the die and get a 2, then the action that happens in 2 is what happens to you, to be role played as you wish.

Have fun Very Happy

Spot of Interest:

You walk over a grassy knoll and ...

1:  ... you hear a threatening growl coming from somewhere to your left.  Cautiously you investigate and encounter an angry bear.  You flee but not before you are hit and lose 5 Stamina.

2:  ... you notice some freshly dug earth and you walk over to investigate it.  Inside you find a buried shield which adds 3 to your defence when it is equipped.

3:  ... you see nothing until it is too late!  You fall into a trap pit and must roll a 5 to escape.  Failure to roll a 5 will mean you are trapped until the next round where you will once again have the chance to roll a five.  If you succeed then, you may roll again and participate in the round as usual.  If you fail, you are trapped until the commencement of the following round whereby you will be free.

4:  ... you trip over what appears to be a rock and bang your elbow, losing you 1 stamina.  When you see what you tripped over, however, you are glad because it is a bronze spear that will add 3 to your attack when equipped.

5:  ... you encounter a swarm of bees and run away to square C11 for safety.

6: ... see nothing special.

Spot of interest dice roll was 4.
-----------
What Raina saw turned out to be a yellow ribbon tied to a tree branch and fluttering in the breeze. Raina left it in it's place, curious what it meant. She glanced around for clues but none were apparent. Shrugging and wanting to go back to the fort she'd seen earlier, she turned on her heel and took a few steps, trampling her way through the tall overgrown grass. Her foot hit something, tripping her up and throwing her off balance so that she fell awkwardly to the ground. Sharp pain radiated from her left elbow and she uttered expletives while climbing back to her feet. It was then that she saw what she had tripped on. The frown lines on her face were replaced with a lopsided grin. "Well I'll be darned" she said. She reached down and picked up an impressive looking bronze spear. It was dirty but the shaft was intact and the tip pointy.

As she looked over her new find, rubbing the dirt off and looking at the craftsmanship she was reminded of the scar on her shoulder. She had been lucky that it had struck her shoulder and not somewhere vital. The man who had thrown it at her, well he had been rather unlucky that Raina managed to snap the shaft, pull out the point and then stab his neck with it causing him to die. He deserved it, the double-crossing bastard.

Raina took this new find as a good omen and held onto the weapon. She backtracked her way through the creeks and ravines going towards the fort.
