I agree that people should have a right not to vote...and quite frankly I'd prefer the low-information voter to NOT vote. That said, I disagree with you that low turnout = low legitamacy. If 20% of eligible votes turn out for an election, but the other 80% don't know anything, I'd suggest that the 20% will make the right decision.

dunmaharfora, 'the' gay dennys is at 7th st and camelback. didnt know there were more. i never experience the hate you do, but why would i? i dont walk around as a set of political beliefs seeking validation or conflict. maybe you have political bumper stickers on your car? i can see that leading to bad times...

illegals arent taking my job, they couldnt do it, im not directly competing with them. ill concede that other factors contribute to skills being paid less than they were in the past.

anto, perception is reality and it comes natural to us to make caricatures of opposition. and i suppose it works the other way, too, that we see our leaders as more and other than they really are. every time they campaign they lie. but thats how the system is, and a politico who is unskilled at lying will not be effective or employed. dishonesty becomes a virtue and dysfunction should be expected, as its built into the system. yeah, im pretty cynical, but i dont get how everyone else isnt. they must be retards, heheh.

roxxy, i voted for perot both times.

Interesting fact: Congresses approval rating is around 10% which is 20% lower than the approval rating of the King of England before the revolution. So arguably yeah you should of had a re-boot a while ago. Razz

As for voting turn-out. I guess i'm mixed on that. Coming from the UK there is also really only two major parties and whilst there are a few other parties which do have the potential to get seats, the government will always be led by one of the two major parties and this has been the case for well over half a century. When I read through both major parties policies, i'm bluntly honest neither appeal to me. These days the parties are so similar you could barley get a cigarette paper between them. Then the other parties are either too similar or one of the 'Crazy Parties' so again they really are not options for me.

So what do I do? Do I go and vote anyway for one of those parties? And in doing so, show my acceptance to the system which I dislike? Or do I not turnout and therefore get put into the 'lazy' category for doing so, even though I have a legitimate issue with the system and the options. No real winning situation. One thing I do like the idea of though is adding a 'None of the above' option to a ballot paper. Why? Well then I have a reason to turn out regardless of the system, cause I can officially express my dissatisfaction as the 'None of the Above' percentage would also be officially counted [Unlike spoilt ballots] And at the same time I would not be voting for a party I do not politically agree with nor support.

There was however something that was interesting to me. The current PM of the UK of the conservative party stated that he wanted to pass a law which would automatically over-turn strikes if they did not get 50% turnout for the strike ballot. So I wonder, if less than 50% of people vote in a general election would that make our government illegitimate?

Not really a big facebook fan, but this was sent to me and I cracked up laughing.  As it is most certainly political, I am sharing it here.

The abuse in this campaign has been appalling. The engagement has been amazing though - 84% turnout is massive.

The gunpowder, treason and plot,

I don't know much about the UK and it's politics, but it has a conservative majority right now if I'm not mistaken (or at least the conservatives formed government), but how did this stuff pass? I'm mostly just pissed off because my favorite femdom porn has come from the UK, but stopping shit from being produced because you find it disgusting, or whatever the reasoning for this is, is rightly fucked up.

I'm curious how they plan to differentiate "aggressive" whipping from other kinds of whipping... is there some kind of force metric in use? If the whipper is smiling does it make it friendly whipping instead of aggressive whipping?

Lol Aiden now I really just want to run down the streets spanking people to make CCTV illegal Very Happy

These are the people in charge of our Country.  Should I get out my yellow "Juden" star while they are at it?  At this rate, we will be wishing that Germany did win the war Evil or Very Mad

Meanwhile, across the pond, we don't even recognize who's running for office:
