DDOCast is streaming live right now. One of their segments was an interview with Fernando Paiz conducted by our very own Steiner-Davion.

It was streaming, I couldn’t pause/rewind/restart, so this is not a transcript as much as a narrative of the interview.

More on the new Crafting system: Deconstruction

* The weapon is destroyed and you can only get one aspect of that weapon
* Examples: +5 OR the prefix OR the suffix Or weapon type
* Recipes also must be unlocked
* Anyone can level up in any of the three schools
* There is an implication that it will be difficult or maybe impossible to become expert in all three crafting schools
* Deconstruction only applies to random generated items: named items cannot be deconstructed

On Warner Bros

* This is the first update from scratch under WB
* WB trusts Turbine to run the game. No one in Burbank is calling to say what to do with DDO
* WB is growing the team and getting the needed resources especially art

More on Challenge System quests

* Variable CR/Difficulty - choose difficulty level 1-25
* Variable CR doesn’t apply to scripted quests
* Challenges give a different kind of experience as opposed to scripted stories
* Designed to be faster. “What can I do if I only have ten minutes?”

Prestige Enhancements in Update 9

* Sorceror gets Elemental Savant, four different lines (earth water fire air) will strengthen abilities with the chosen element but weaken other elemental abilities
* Divine Avenger for favored soul comes with automatic debuffs and can be transferred to someone else in your aura*
* At least two tiers available for all these prestige enhancements

* Fernando meant to say Angel of Vengeance. The specifics of this PrE have already been posted here.

* Update 9 is slated for April
* Fernando considers Shroud greensteel crafting to be “hardcore endgame”
* German beta next week, hoping to have the full German launch with update 9*
* Crystal Cove will be making an encore appearance
* There were 200 different Kobold voice lines
* A new house ward is coming later this year - a major addition to the city that adds richness to the backstory of the world of Eberron


* Changed to French and German in a later conversation with Steiner-Davion

Challenge System Questing

* The Crystal Cove adventure is a “Collection Challenge”
* This is a preview of an all-new quest system, the “Challenges system”
* Challenge quests can give scores and rankings can be kept on a leaderboard
* New Challenge System quests will not be in Update 9, but later this year (the “back half of the year”)

New crafting system

* Is designed to apply to low level characters as well as high levels
* Deconstruct an item into an essence, for instance, a +3 paralzying kama yields a paralyzing essence
* Apply that essence to a different weapon, for instance a +5 bastard sword becomes a +5 paralyzing bastard sword
* There are three different schools of crafting and a leveling/progression system Elemental, Divine, and Arcane
* You master levels within each school by earning Crafting XP
* You earn recipes with “Recipe Runs”, and recipes can be “mastered”, but no information is given on how that happens
* You can craft something above your skill level and roll dice to see how it comes out
* You may lose ingredients if you fail a crafting attempt
* Some of the crafting will be available in update 9 but it is a big system and will also be included/upgraded in update 11 and all year long

Update 9 quests

* Horror themed adventure pack themed around classic Xorian monsters (beholder, mindflayer, “things that mess with your mind”)
* They had to work with WotC to extend the universe with some cool new monsters
* High level 15+ but he expects it to be run from 12-19 or so



It's supposed to be out in April =)

I love the idea of being able to add paralyzing, or whatever to any other randomly generated loot Smile

There are some other good updates too. I don't think they really needed another adventure pack for levels 15-19 though. There's plenty to do at those levels (with good XP) already!

That looks cool! I'm especially excited about being able to get some use out of the vendor trash. Question to anyone that tested it out in Lammania - when they talk about "crafting skills," what do they mean? Is that going to be something we need to put skill points into, or is it something else?

Welcome to the Lammania Release Notes for Dungeons & Dragons Online! These release notes were posted on Thursday, May 12th, 2011. Please note that these release notes are subject to change.
News & Notes

Of Special Note:

Crafting Beta

The crafting level cap has been increased to 75!
Deconstruction of items now grants players a small amount of crafting XP in the crafting school associated with the essences gained.
Deconstructing low tier effects on high-end loot will now return more reward essences.
The ingredient cost to create shards has been significantly lowered.
A maximum enchantment level of +5 now appears on all standard craftable item blanks. This level determines how much power a given item can hold when adding magical effects through crafting. The items can have their maximum enchantment level increased by crafting Shards of Potential.
Recipes exist in all three schools of crafting to create “Shards of Potential” of various strengths that can be applied to a crafting blank to increase its maximum enchantment level. Higher plus Shards of Potential are significantly more expensive to create than lower plus Shards of Potential.
Bound crafting shards are now Bound to Account instead of Bound to Character.
It is now possible to deconstruct crafting Shards using the Deconstruction Eldritch Device.
Crafting recipes will now display how much the minimum character level to equip an item will increase when the recipe is applied.
The names of essences have been changed for better standardization.
The "Vengeful Rage" mutation is now a prefix instead of a suffix.
Numerous treasure mutations have had their enchantment values lowered.
The Everbright Shard has been consolidated, and can be applied to either weapons or shields.

General Changes

Combat

The Intimidate symbol will no longer randomly appear over monsters' heads.

DDO Store

The Lesser Anti-Beholder Crystal now blocks beholder telekinesis attacks.

Feats

Cleave and Great Cleave are now working correctly for half-orc characters.

Items

Mineral II greensteel items now have all of their expected effects.
Greensteel weapons that had both Icy Burst and Frost abilities, but lost their Frost ability, will now possess their Frost ability again.
Older arrow types that went mad with the release of Update 9 have now been made sane, and are back to their proper descriptions.
Crafted handwraps will now properly apply their to-hit and damage bonuses.
Bows, crossbows, and thrown weapons will now work properly with smiting, banishing, and disruption.
Several typos have been corrected in the description of disruption.

Localization

The Crafting tab is now available on the character sheet for players with localized German clients.

Monsters

Thaarak hounds are less prone to dancing and falling down, and have new abilities.
Orange-named mini bosses now get deathblock on epic difficulty.

NPCs

The Twelve favor patron now gives out a Small Ingredients Bag when first visited.
The Free Agents now subscribe to the Stormreach Chronicle instead of the Korranberg Chronicle.

Quests

Harbinger of Madness

Fear Factory

Fixed some DM text.

In The Flesh

Dead Pykzyl is now able to leave his room and pursue attackers.
Fixed an issue that sometimes caused Yaulthoon to become unresponsive.
Parties will now have their soul stones sent to the beginning of the dungeon after a party wipe in the final fight with Yaulthoon.
A new named item can now drop on hard and elite for beating Yaulthoon.

The Missing

The mini-boss Pale Fire has been upgraded slightly.
Auto-opening doors are now selectable.

Inspired Quarter

I Dream of Jeets

Corrected several focus orbs.

The Necropolis

Ghosts of Perdition

Ice floors no longer re-form upon dungeon re-entry.

The Twelve

The Tower of the Twelve

The door to the Eldritch Chamber in the Twelve can now be used normally.

Vale of Twilight

The Shroud

Fixed a stuck spot.

Races

Half-orc and half-elf males no longer use the female icon in the Who panel.

Skills, Feats, and Enhancements

Some enchantment-based effects that inadvertently affected raid bosses no longer do so.

Spells

The visual appearance of barkskin will no longer remain on characters after the effect wears off.
Solid Fog's reflex penalty now works on bosses and raid bosses, and has been fixed to apply the correct -5 penalty to creatures within the spell's area of effect.
Acid Fog's tool tip now states that enemies within its area of effect suffer a -4 penalty to Armor Class.

UI

When receiving a quest from an NPC, the yellow guidance arrows in the mini map now point at the correct dungeon entrance. Quest Journals correctly default to the most recently-bestowed quest instead of the alphabetical first on the list.
The Escape key can now be used to close Barter UI and Crafting UI windows.
The focus orb has been fixed for the Gnollish War Bow.

Other Changes

Fixed a bug where shadows were not displaying properly with DX10 and DX11.
Moving can now interrupt the /death command.
