Puzzle solvers are a pain. This cheat sheet is excellent and can be printed out.

http://myddo.webs.com/shroudguide/puzzlesixpattern.html

And if you want to practice solving without a puzzler, this link takes you to a practice puzzle which also helps build confidence on solving it.

In a short time you won't even have to refer to the cheat sheet.

Yeah... cheat sheet makes no sense to me. I put it in the solver for the 3x3s and hit the buttons it tells me to... and I'm just as confused as before, only now with more dark lights. There are a couple that solve themselves when you hit the buttons they tell you too, but the rest just get worse lol.

Ignore your solver. We're doing this without a solver =) Bring up the second link I posted above which gives you a typical shroud puzzle (with no solutions).

Okay, lets try a 3x3.

Use the practice link above, and solve down as usual, stepping on any tile underneath an unlit tile.

When you get to the bottom look at what is lit.

For example, lets say you end up with nothing lit on the bottom row. On the cheat sheet this is situation 1 which has the middle spot on the top row marked in red.

Hit that spot.

The puzzle is now in a state that if you solve down from the top again, it will come out with all lights on.

Another example - lets say after the first pass of solving down the bottom row has the left and middle tile lit up. This corresponds to option 4 on the cheat sheet. So on the top row you step on the right and middle tile. Step back and start to solve down again. It will come out. I promise.

There is another way to do 3x3 without a cheatsheet too.

Choose which is the top row. Solve down from the top.

Now look at the puzzle as if that bottom row is now the top row and solve going the opposite way.

If it still hasn't come out, change the top/bottom rows back again and solve once more.

It usually comes out after three passes of solving down from whatever you have assigned as the top row.

Thanks for that cheat sheet - I hope that'll make 5x5s easier! They're the only ones I have no clue about and I always dread getting one.

*scratches head*

don't use solvers ... I'm not sure what the problems are with following the cheat sheet.

1) solve puzzle down to bottom row
2) compare bottom row to cheatsheet to see which tile/s on the top row to hit
3) solve down again.

zog, if you can do a 3x3 you can do a 5x5. they are the same in principle, just take a bit longer to do.

Ok, the explanation makes more sense.

By solver I meant the practice thingy btw Razz Having better luck with the 3x3s now tho I still get stuck sometimes.

Soooo... today had the laggiest Shroud ever. Everyone died in a 5x5 up north from the wall, and I had problems even with my 3x3 because I kept hitting things twice due to the lag. Other cleric was a first-timer who spent more time blocking than healing, so when the wall hit I ran up to the 5x5, Anto let me in, res'd a couple, DI'd myself, and did the 5x5 according to the cheat sheet here when everyone else died again from the wall. Lag still gave me big problems but I did it! And I learned that the wall doesn't even touch you if you have DI lol.
