PostSubject: PC Hardware question - Dorks Only!   Fri Jan 13, 2012 11:02 pm

Ok, I am trying to extend the life of my system a bit. Couple years I'll wind up buying or building a new one.

My pc had 3 gigs ram, 1 X2Gb and 1 X1Gb.

I just plopped a 2Gb into the slot the 1 used to be in, and its registering 4 gigs fine, but wont go into dual channel. I know, should have gotten 2 sticks bla bla; but like I said I'm just trying to extend the life a bit on this and DDR2 is getting expensive since its now a relic of the past. Laughing

And yea, I messed around in BIOS and couldn't find anything useful. CPU-Z and the POST screen both say single channel, it runs fine; no fires or smoke Razz

Timings match up ect, But in CPU-Z I notice that the 'new' RAM lists 2 JEDEC frequencies while the older original RAM lists 3. Also, even before I place the new ram in it was running at 333mhz, even though its pc2-6400 (400mhz)....
Still running at 333...

So, I'm kinda at my limit here regarding time/energy/money. Anyone who knows about this crap, would be helpful. Smile

Is it something simple, like a voltage thing I gotta mess with in the BIOS; or simply getting same brand mem. stick?

My not at all useful answer is you should use the same brand memory or risk not booting up/BSOD/Explosions.

Idk anything useful to you though Razz

I guess this is dorky, but I was having security warnings pop up a ridiculous amount everytime I was on RK forum there, hence why I posted:

This post is in violation of Rule 4.
Quote :
Rule 4: Offensive Content

Offensive content, either written or in images, is prohibited on the forums, both in private and public view. Offensive content includes sexual content, violence and profanity. Any post or private message, whether in character or out of character, that contains sexual content, violence or profanity will be considered in violation of Rule 4.

Notes:
  1. Characters in role play may hug, kiss, and touch each other in areas not generally covered by a swimsuit. Any actions beyond this may be considered in violation of Rule 4. You are expected to “fade the scene” or “close the door” to the public on any other intimacy. If you are not sure, then your actions are probably going too far.
  2. While role playing battles and other period appropriate activities may involve some degree of violence, graphic descriptions or pictures will be considered in violation of Rule 4. Again, if you are not sure, then your actions are probably going too far.
  3. Conflict in role play may involve passionate interaction, but profanities may not be used. Be creative and use another way to express your character's feelings. And a third time, if you are not sure, then your choice of words is probably going too far. The use of *** or acronyms to disguise profanity is not allowed.
  4. Rule 4 applies to all graphics and words, including the ones used for avatars, banners and signatures. Graphics may not display any of the following: nipples, genitalia, full frontal or rear nudity.
  5. Posting links to any site which violates any part of Rule 4 will be considered a violation of Rule 4.

I don't understand : FAQ -> Rules and Procedures Directory - Read Before Posting -> Forum Rules

This violation carries 1 point which will remain on your record for the next 6 months. You have already one point on record at present, so that makes two points in total which means a 24 hour suspension from the forum.

Please see the Forum Violation Protocols for further information in regard to the warning system.

Appeals to this decision can be made by PM to one of the forum administrators, {Badger} or {Swallow}.

We regret that this action must be taken, but RK is an environment that all should be able to enjoy within the guidelines established for posting. We hope that your break will give you time to think about the way you have posted and that you will bring your posts into line with the forum rules on return to the forum.

Please remember to read through your posts before clicking "submit". It's natural to need to let off steam from time to time, but the forum is the wrong place to do that.

Sincerely,
Anteater

That doesn't look like a constructive thread where you give an explanation of your problem Very Happy but I must say that the English censors close/ban very fast...

To answer on your RK topic: I don't have problems with RK for now, but a while ago, I got for 2 days security warnings when going to RK.
Probably you changed something to your internet security settings
